National symbols of Nepal

The national symbols are in a way theme of a particular nation. These are the symbols and things that the inhabitant of that nation respect and want to be respected. In a way, these symbols are attached with the conscience of the citizens of that nation. They make the country and the countrymen rich, prosperous and unique in the world.



1. Flag of Nepal


The national flag of Nepal is the world's only national flag that is non-quadrilateral in shape. The flag is a simplified combination of two single pennons, the vexillological word for a pennant. Its crimson red is the colour of the rhododendron, the country's national flower. Red is also the sign of victory in war. The blue border is the colour of peace. Until 1962, the flag's emblems, the sun and the crescent moon, had human faces. They were removed to modernize the flag. The faces remained on the sun and the moon on the Royal Standard until the abolition of the monarchy in 2008. 

2. Emblem of Nepal


The Emblem of Nepal contains the flag of Nepal, Mount Everest, green hills symbolising the hilly regions of Nepal and yellow colour symbolising the fertile Terai region, male and female hands joining to symbolise gender equality, and a garland of rhododendrons (the national flower). Atop this is a white silhouette in the shape of Nepal.
The coat of arms of Nepal was changed during the reconciliation period following the Nepalese Civil War. On 30 December 2006, a new coat of arms was introduced.

3. Bird of Nepal


Lophophorus also was known as Danphe, one of the most beautiful birds in Nepali is the Himalayan monal. Beautiful in the sense that it has a metallic color combination of green, purple, red and green. It is relatively large about 70 cm long. It is basically found in the high altitudes of Nepal in between 2400 and 4500 meters, generally in Hilly and the Himalayan region. In summer, you can see Daanfe in rocky, grass covered meadows while in winter, you can see them in the coniferous and mixed forest. It is an endangered species due to its poaching. So, Nepal has declared it as the national bird to protect it from being disappeared from the earth. No one is allowed to hunt this species in Nepal. It can tolerate snow and even find its foods in snow.It is even found in Himachal Pradesh of India, Pakistan, and Bhutan.

4. Flower of Nepal


Rhododendron is Nepal’s national flower of and found especially in the hilly areas above 1200m altitude. It blossoms from March to May in the spring season. The mid mountain vertical belt between 2,000 and 4,000 m serves as the 'wild' preserve of the rhodododendron, or GURANS and CHIMAL, the two words being used in Nepali. Below are the major areas for Rhododendron:
  1. Langtang national park, near from Kathmandu.
  2. Makalubarun national park.
  3. Milke Danda-Jaljale Himal, a transverse mountain range which separates the two river systems of the Tamur and the Arun. 
  4. Upper Tamur River Valley.
5. Animal of Nepal


The cow is the national animal of Nepal. The cow is worshiped as the incarnation of Goddess Laxmi, the god of wealth by Hindus. So, there is huge respect for cows in Nepal. Much Nepalese in the Hilly and rural areas are found keeping cows as the most common domestic animal. They are generally raised to get milk from where they make ghee, butter, and cheese and sell them in the market. So, the cow is also one of the sources of income to Nepalese people. The cow is worshiped in Laxmi Puja every year which falls in the Tihar, one of the biggest festivals of Nepal. After the cow has been declared as a national animal, killing cows inside the country has been banned. If anyone is found doing such activities, he/she will be punished by the present constitution of Nepal.

6. Language of Nepal



The national language of Nepal is Nepali language.Nepali or Nepalese (नेपाली) is a language in the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European language family. It is the official language of Nepal and is also spoken in Bhutan and parts of India. In India, it is one of the country's 2nd official languages: Nepali has official language status in the formerly independent state of Sikkim and in West Bengal's Darjeeling district. Nepali developed in proximity to a number of Tibeto-Burman languages, most notably Kirati and Gurung, and shows Tibeto-Burman influences.


7. Color of Nepal


Crimson is a strong, bright, deep reddish purple color. it is the national colour of nepal.
